Christina Hazell - Registered Dietitian

What is a Registered Dietitian?

Registered Dietitians (RDs) are experts in food and nutrition. They help people achieve healthier eating patterns and lifestyles to prevent and treat chronic disease by translating the science of nutrition into terms that everyone can understand.  They are a regulated health profession governed by a regulatory college that ensures its members maintain high standards of education and ethics in order to protect the public.  As such, Registered Dietitian's are your most trusted and reliable source of high quality, evidence based nutrition advice.

What Can You Expect From Your Dietitian Appointment?

  • Your pre-appointment will consist of a 10-15 minute discovery call to review your nutrition and health goals and to reflect on your past successes and areas for opportunity.  At this time, I may ask you to complete a food record and additional health history questionnaire in preparation for your initial consult.
  • At your initial consult, we will meet for an hour and I will complete a full nutrition assessment where we will review your health goals, lifestyle, exercise regimen, medical history, relevant blood work, medications, supplement use, eating patterns, portion sizes, food preferences and any food intolerances/allergies, as well as any restaurants frequented.
  • Following my assessment, I will provide you with practical strategies for improving your eating habits and optimizing your nutritional status.  This may include methods for managing any pre-existing conditions but will also include evidence-based guidance on improving the quality and variety of your diet in order to help you meet your goals.
  • Each person is unique and therefore each session will vary in terms of content.  There is no ‘one size fits all approach’ to a healthier you.  Generally speaking, you should expect to receive advice on increasing or decreasing specific foods, meal planning, portion sizes, label reading, mindful eating and modifying unhealthy behaviours. Following your initial consult, we will establish a nutrition care plan that meets your individual goals and lifestyle.

Evidence has proven that the most successful plans are those that are sustainable over the long term.  As you move toward your goal, you may encounter challenges along the way.  In this case, your plan may need some adjustments and in some cases, you may need some encouragement and motivation.  This is the perfect opportunity to book a follow up session.

  • Follow up sessions range from 30-45 minutes depending on the complexity of your unique needs.  During a follow up session, you can expect to review your food record, discuss challenges and wins and work toward modifying your plan so that as you evolve, so does your nutrition care plan.
Whether you need a single visit or multiple, my job doesn’t end when you walk out the door.

You can be guaranteed that each visit I will focus on educating and helping you to develop the skills and knowledge to navigate our food environment with confidence.
