STAYING HEALTHY DURING COVID-19
We are living through uncertain times right now but there is one thing we can be certain of and that is how important our health is! We wanted to reach out with this blog and share with you some of the ways we have been keeping both physically and mentally healthy during COVID-19!
Keep as many of your normal daily routines intact as you can!
Wake up at your normal time, take a shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, and brush your teeth. We may feel like it is a good idea to sleep the hours away, however, sleeping too much can pose some of the same health risks of sleeping too little. Staying in our pjs all day may also seem like a great idea but it may also make you feel lazy and unproductive. Do you usually workout after work? Find an online workout class to do instead!
You’re bored, not hungry!
This is one of the biggest challenges we will all face during our time in quarantine – snacking! To avoid snacking make sure you are eating your regular meals at the time of day your body is used to eating. Don’t buy that bag of chips you know you’ll eat in one sitting watching Netflix, buy fruits and veggies instead. If you must have those chips fill a small bowl and leave the rest in the cupboard for tomorrow! Feeling hungry? DRINK SOME WATER! Most of the time our bodies are really just thirsty!
Movement is Medicine!
The body is designed to move! When we stop moving, we start to get pain. Muscles, bones, joints, cartilage and nerves all benefit from movement. They NEED movement! When we move lymphatic fluid and oxygen move around our bodies to different tissues, healing factors are taken to areas in need of repair, debris is filtered and the body thrives! Are you finding yourself bingeing too much Netflix? Do something active at the end of each episode like running up and down the stairs, doing 20 push ups, or going outside for a walk around the block. We all have different fitness routines, find one that works for you at home and do it everyday! JUST KEEP MOVING!
Human contact minus the contact!
Let’s take advantage of today’s awesome technology! Schedule a FaceTime or Zoom dinner date with your family and friends. Have a Netflix party and watch the Taylor Swift Reputation Concert, at least this way your friends can mute your singing! Download the same e-book as your friends and start a FaceTime book club or challenge your friends to a virtual Plank-Off!
Fresh air is KEY!
This quarantine isn’t about closing the shutters and not seeing daylight for weeks, it is about being socially responsible and distancing ourselves from others. Go for a walk with your pup, sit in your backyard and chat with your neighbour who is sitting in their backyard, BBQ something yummy for dinner, or go for a drive with the windows down. These are all safe ways to get outside for some fresh air!
We are all in this together! Stay safe and stay healthy!
