Neurofunctional, or Contemporary Medical Acupuncture, is a modern, evidence-based approach to acupuncture that focuses on the nervous system, muscles, and movement. Rather than primarily using traditional acupuncture meridians, it uses precise needling techniques to stimulate specific muscles, nerves, and connective tissues to help reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore normal neuromuscular function and efficiency.
Unlike Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture, which is based on concepts such as meridians, qi, and energetic patterns, Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is grounded in modern anatomy, neurophysiology, and musculoskeletal science. Treatment is typically based on the patient's symptoms, movement patterns, physical examination, and the underlying neuromuscular structures contributing to their condition.
